This episode centers on the real-world journey of starting and sustaining live video streams to build authority and connection for your business. Tanya Smith shares her personal story of moving from camera-shy to confident on-air host, offering relatable advice for anyone nervous about showing up on screen.
Throughout the episode, you’ll learn what to expect in your first 30 days of consistent live streaming, how to build trust and connection with your audience (even when your setup isn’t perfect), and simple ways to craft your message, choose your platform, and develop a routine that works for your life. The discussion also covers handling low turnout, perfectionism, negative comments, and the importance of giving yourself both grace and a practical runway.
Tanya Smith: Hey everybody, it's Tanya here. Look, I just had so much fun creating that song for Stream Like a Boss. I actually have a theme song, but this was a remix version. So I hope that you like it. We'll probably cut it down for future lives, but I love, love, love being able to share that with you. And I thought it was so expressive of what we talk about here. By the way, my name is Tanya Smith and I am the founder of Get Notice With Video LLC. and also the lead video marketing strategist at StreamLikeABoss.tv. Stream Like A Boss is a love and passion project of mine and has been for several years now. And I just can't believe that we we keep doing this thing. We keep doing this thing. And so this is what I wanted to talk with you about tonight because I was not a video person. I was that person that was like, don't put me on camera. And I love to tell this story because so many people have the same thought. You're like, don't put me on camera. I don't want to do video. And you're struggling with this idea of putting yourself on camera or doing video because of so many different reasons, whether it's because of lack of confidence or it's because you don't know what you should be saying or you're just really not clear on exactly how to get started. So whatever it might be for you, what I wanted to do is to dedicate this particular episode to you and to talk a little bit about what to expect in your first 30 days. So here's what we do at Stream Like a Boss. If you are brand new to the show, we like for you to put in hashtag newbie, hashtag newbie if you're brand new to the show so that we can welcome and acknowledge you. If you've been here before, you get to put hashtag OG because your family, if you've seen any of our shows, been to any of our videos, we always love to love on our family, our community at Stream Like A Boss TV. So love to see you. Go ahead and pop your comments into the chat. Now you may be watching from YouTube. You might be watching from LinkedIn, Facebook, even Substack. Substack folks, I want to say hello to you over there. and make sure that you're able to see me and to hear me well. It is exciting to be able to spread the community across different channels and platforms so that you have access wherever you prefer to hang out. And that's one of the things we'll talk a little bit about that too, is choosing your platform. We have some dedicated episodes on that too, but I do want to dive into this whole idea of what you can expect when you make the decision to really leverage live streaming. as a consistent way to build authority for your brand. Now, most of you are entrepreneurs. Most of you are people like me who have decided that you want to use it for business purposes. But there might be some of you who are using Livestream for, you know, a hobby or to produce information about a cause that you believe in, especially a lot of folks that I've seen on Substack. It may not necessarily be a business that you're doing. but it may be because you want to get your message out and be seen as credible in your field. Whatever the reason might be, I want to talk to you honestly and transparently about what it's like to have that first 30 days of being consistently live streaming. Now, it doesn't mean that you're doing them every day. That's not what we're talking about. What I'm talking about is that you're actually showing up on a recurring or regular basis. Now for me, when I first started out, one of the things that I actually did is I made a decision to go live twice, I said twice, a week. And that was actually good for me. I definitely wasn't going to do every day for 30 days. I know a lot of people do those type of challenges. For me, I wanted to do something that was realistic. I wanted to give myself a runway that I knew I would definitely be willing to actually pursue. I wanted to do something that was gonna be honestly doable for my schedule. And what I did end up learning is that even doing it twice a week was a bit too much. So we ended up going back to once a week and over that timeframe of probably a few months really is when I figured out the best time of day. But I wanna break this thing down for you. week by week for your first 30 days and talk a little bit about what that can look like for you. If you have questions, I am here live. So don't hesitate to ask because I love questions and I'd love for you to tell me what you're going to do in your first 30 days. Now, some of you, as I know in my family, my OGs have been here for a while. You've been doing live streams for the longest. And so this may not be new for you. but I know that we have quite a few people who are newer to doing live stream, especially over in our sub stack space. So wherever you are, if you're finding that you're struggling a bit because you're not really sure of what to expect, you're not really sure how to get started, you're not sure of what to say, then we'll hopefully give you some nuggets and some ideas that will help you to move forward and to pursue your dream of really building that brand authority. So I see an OG in the house, Dr. Vibe Show. Thank you so much. Greetings to you as well. I love that you always offer to wish me and my family well wishes. So thank you for that. I appreciate you. For those of you who are over on Substack. Hello, Molly. Hi, William. It's good to see you. You're here to share and learn. Thank you. Well, I always learn from you in the comments as well. So again, make sure that you know. You're more than welcome to ask questions and to share your comments. So let's do this. What I know is that a lot of times people will tell you, I guess they'll give you a little bit of a false sense of what to expect when it comes to lives. And again, this is one of the reasons why I don't necessarily love to do those 30 days or live everyday challenges, because I want you to get in a habit. that is really going to be doable and reasonable and rational for you and for your lifestyle. And honestly, even going live every week, once a week, for up to an hour a week, which is what I currently do. Actually, what I don't do now, I don't do that every day or every week now, but when I was doing that, even that created a sense of burnout. So now what you'll see in my languaging, even on my YouTube channel, instead of saying live every Thursday, what I say is most Thursdays. Why? Because we want to give ourselves grace and space. And it's okay to do that. So we're going to talk a little bit about that too. Okay. Now, if this is your first time here, and if you have not really consistently done live streams, I want you to type a zero. into the chat. If you have been consistently doing live streams, but you're still here to learn how to enhance and improve them, I want you to type a one in the chat and I'll be watching for you so that I can make sure that I give you tips in both spaces. So a lot of times what ends up happening, especially for those of you who are coaches and service based providers is you'll start going live because somebody told you you needed to do it. but you haven't really evaluated what the system and the plan is going to look like. And so you end up committing for that first week and maybe even get through week two, but around the 14th day, around week two, you decide to quit. It's not working. So you throw your hands up in the air and say, no, I give up. This is not going to help. What I want you to know is that this is the reason why this episode is for you because Realistically, there are going to be some things that you just need to be prepared for. So let's talk about this. Let's talk about week one. The advice again is going live for 30 days, which I do agree you need to at least give yourself that type of a runway. Now, I gave myself a runway of a year. That's because I knew who I was. I knew that 30 days was probably not going to give me the results that I was looking for. I knew that it would be easier for me to give up on day two if I only gave myself 30 days. So I gave myself a year to see if I do this consistently for a year and it's working, I'll continue. And if it doesn't work, at least I gave it a real effort and try. And I would strongly encourage you to give yourself more of a runway than just 30 days. But if it's really, really hard and it's something that you're kind of fighting with yourself about, give yourself just the 30 days. Start with that as a minimum, okay? It's okay. So when you do this, keep in mind this fact, and that is the 30 days are not about you going viral. They really aren't. The 30 days are less about you going viral and they are more about you developing the habit to be visible. Do you hear what I'm saying? Okay. I know that viral virality is a thing that everybody talks about. It's the hot topic. It's the hot phrase of the year of the decade, if you will. Everybody talks about wanting to be viral, but don't make that your focus. And especially if you're giving yourself that 30 day runway, what I want you to do is think in terms of, I want to be visible and I want to develop the habit of being visible for at least 30 days. Now, remember again, if you do have questions on what I'm sharing, feel free to go ahead and put that in. I see some folks that are giving me those zeros. So let me pop these up and say hello real quick here. Cause I love to see you. First of all, there's my friend of Dr. Vibe show in the house. Greetings to you again. Let's see, Roz. Roz Wesley said zero. So you're at zero right now. You're just getting started. And this is perfect. Actually, when you're starting out, the reason why this is so good, same thing with you, Corey. The reason why it's excellent that you're in the zero mode is because that means that you don't have a lot of bad habits to break. Okay. So just know you're starting from ground zero and you can start with the tips that I'm sharing. in mind. You don't have to go back and try to fix things that are broken. You're starting from scratch. And for those of you who are over on the Substack space, the same thing. If you've typed in a zero, just know I'm with you. I'm going to keep pace with you. This is really for you. But even if you typed in a one and you've been doing some live streams pretty regularly, I'm going to give you some tips that will help you to enhance as well. Enhance and make sure that your expectations are realistic. How about that? Okay, so yes, and I love that what Dr. Vibe shared. Let me pop this up because I think this is so cool. And I love how you all support each other in the chat. You know this, so be sure to put some things in there in the comments in the chat. For those who are at zero, I am confident that this session will be helpful. Thank you, Dr. Vibe Show. Thank you, Dan Roth, my brother. Hashtag OG. You know, I'm not gonna put the other comment up, you know this But but I'm with you I'm with you bro Okay, so let's talk a little bit about that week one expectation So again, it's about developing the habit to be visible not so much about going viral but being visible is the goal Okay, because what we tend to do is we tend to shrink ourselves and to try to fit into a box and so Typically what's going to happen, especially if you're in a service provider business, is you end up being stuck in performance mode. This was literally a conversation I had with a client earlier this week. She was saying, know, we finally talked about getting to go live, right? And I thought she was there. And then she turned back and said, I don't know. I think maybe it will be easier for me to just do produced videos. because then I can go back and I can edit them and I can make them perfect. And I was like, that's exactly the opposite of the point. That's exactly what we don't want you to focus on is being perfect. What we want you to focus on is being visible and also practicing, being authentic and real. And I shared with her the idea is that you want people to get to know who you really are. When you're using live streams, when you're using video content to build a brand, one of the most critical things you can do is to build trust. Just like my song earlier was talking about, it's about building trust. So that when people see you show up on camera, they know that it's really you. They know that what you have to say is relevant and of value to them. They know that you took the time to prepare, right? All of those things and building the trust That's so critical and that's what you're doing in the beginning is really just putting yourself in the habit of showing up and getting out of performance mode instead of expecting instant validation. You're there because you know you're going to break some things. And trust me, even after years of doing this with Stream Like a Boss, I still break things. Some of you have been there when I've broken things and you've laughed at me or laughed with me. I laugh too, because I realize that no one's gonna be hurt in the making of this video. And if you remember that, then it's all good. So get unstuck from being in performance mode, but that's one of the reasons why we tend to quit by week two. The algorithm does not owe you attention. Your future clients, however, do need to hear from you consistently, so. One of our recent videos you should go back and watch on our YouTube channel that talks about the difference between coming on and doing videos as a creator versus as a coach or a strategist. They're two different mindsets. And the mindset that I have when I come on is not, I want to get 10,000 followers or 10,000 views. My mindset is I want to hit the right people with the right message at the right time. And that may mean a smaller audience, but it's no less effective. It's impactful because it's guiding the people who are meant to be in my circle of influence. It's guiding them to me and me to them. So again, I'm speaking to you as a service provider. And if that's you, our focus is going to be a little bit different and we're not so much worried about the whole virality thing, but we are going to practice. our competence muscles so that we can build up confidence. So what we're really doing in the first 30 days is we are laying the groundwork for trust, clarity, and confidence. And if that rings a bell for you, if that's what you want from doing video and putting your content out into the world, I want you to put a fire emoji into the chat. If that sounds like your goal, Now, I know there's going to be some of you who are like, no, I really just want to have 100,000 followers and fans. That's OK. But I'm probably not the right person for you. Like, I'm not speaking to those people. I'm speaking to you if you truly are someone who is a heart-centered entrepreneur who is looking to serve people in a different, more powerful and impactful way. So week one, here's what happens. Most new streamers feel good after day one. So you went live and you're like, yes, I did it. Right. And you're all excited. And you've got, you know, the let me see. Let me pop some things up into the chat. Let's see. What can we do? You have everything following or flowing like the confetti hype is going. and you're excited and you got the bells and whistles and you're like, â my God, I did it. I cannot believe I did this. Right. But then you start looking at your numbers or you go back and you watch or listen to your own video and you freak out. And you, here's the things that you say. I know what you say because I said them too. Dang, that really sounded dumb. Why did I say that? I don't know why I made, I got this little eye twitching thing that keeps happening. Or, man, my lighting is horrible. I don't even know if they could see me. It was so dark in that room. Or, nobody even watched. Why am I doing this? Nobody showed up. I told everybody I could. I told my whole family, because that's what we do. I told my family. that I was going to be live at such and such time and nobody showed up for me. You're to be saying all of these things and that's when you're going to retreat. Okay? Mentally, you're probably going to retreat back to your comfort zone where you're going to say what my client said. You know what? Maybe I'll just try pre-recording and I won't do this live thing. But really, here's what she was saying while she was saying this. She said, I know that I'm telling myself a lie. I know that it's not real, but I just can't shake it. She knew. She knew that there was this little person on her shoulder that was telling her why she shouldn't do it, but at the same time on the other side, she was hearing that voice, probably my voice, saying, you can do this. You are empowered and you are equipped to do this. It's really okay. Now, for those of you who don't know why I talk about live streaming, first of all, personally, I know that it is a very powerful media to be able to connect with people on a real and practical level. Not only are you connecting with them simply because you're showing up live and on camera and, they can see you, yeah, you're on stage, but it's also about the conversations. It's also about the recognition. It's the fact that I can see William Jeffrey is in the house and he said, thank you. And I'm talking to you directly, William. And Andrea Drekay, Kelly joined. Hey, what's up? Overrun sub stack. And I see Dr. Vibe show and Dr. Vibe said, focus on being visible, not viral. And he's putting my knowledge bombs into the chat. I love it. Thank you, OG. And I'm just... Getting a chance to really get to know you and you get to know me and we create community together This is part of the power of live is the engagement factor This is one of the reasons why I love to showcase your questions and your commentary that you put into the chat I can put those on screen and by the way folks who are unsubstacked. I think I have my setup right so I may even see hmm It might not be right because it's not pulling up where it needs to. But I was going to try to pull your comments up as well. Let's see if we can do one little tweaky thing here and folks that are over on Instagram. What's up? I see. Let's see who we see over there. Tall TC got you over there. Alex Caramelli. What's up? My other live stream buddy. Podcast your story is in the house and Gary Jones Jr. What's up? What's up? Look. I love being able to acknowledge and people love to be acknowledged. They love to hear their names. If you've ever heard that whole saying about what's in it for me, the W-I-I-F-M on someone's hat, people want to hear their names. They want to know that they matter to you. And each and every one of you truly matters to me. Not because, hey, I've got more views, but because I feel like through my voice, And through this video that we're doing right now, I can make a difference. Just one thing, one nugget you might take away could change the whole trajectory of the way that you're doing business and doing life. And that in itself is important to me. So when you think about your why, and you're gonna start, here's the thing, you're not gonna know all the answers your first week. So week one, forget about it. You're not gonna know everything. And it's not going to be perfect. And it's probably going to suck. My first several lives were pretty bad. I probably should have pulled up one so I could show you just how bad they were. I definitely didn't have the setup that I have now. This is something I built up to. The thing that I worried the most about was what will people say about me? Will they think I'm stupid? Will they judge me for my looks and my appearance? Well, they think poorly of me some way. And some of you are probably thinking that too. And I want you to know it's okay because that just means you're human. So what I want you to know is that live streaming, especially in your first 30 days, is not about being perfect, but it is about you being present. It is about you showing up for yourself and for other people that are watching. The tech is not the problem. Your mindset is. So all the things about, my god, my lighting's horrible and I don't have fancy cameras right now and I don't have the fancy microphone that Tanya's using, I can't go live. None of that stuff matters. It's your mindset, week one. You do not need a studio, but you do need a reason to keep showing up. Use. Here's a couple of things that I want you to think about for week one. For week one, don't worry about going out and buying and investing in a new platform. You can get to that. But initially, you can start by using an easy, native tool. And what I mean by native is you can go live directly inside of Facebook, directly inside of Instagram, without any extra tools. You can use your phone to do this, OK? So use native simple, easy tools that will help you to do it without feeling like you've got roadblocks. I don't want you to be thinking about, I've got to learn this tech and I've got to learn this platform or that platform. Nope. So we're going to do it really super easy so that you can move those excuses out of the way. Your lighting might be off. Your mic might glitch. And guess what? It doesn't matter. Your consistency matters 10 times more than your camera gear. So the mantra that I adopted after week one was, I just want to reach the right people with the right message at the right time. So I want you to put the word right into the chat. I'm going to help you remember this mantra. All you got to do is put the word right. R-I-G-H-T, type that into the chat if you're really hearing what I'm saying to you. right message, right people, right time. And whoever that might be, it could be one person that ends up watching the replay. They didn't even show up with you live, but they're watching the replay. That's the goal for week one. Okay, now week two. Week two, thank you for putting that hashtag right in there. And I didn't check to see if I can put my sub stack comments in here, but I will check that in a minute. Let's get ready to do week two first and then we'll check it before we do week three. How about that? All right. So week two is the, what do I say phase? â You've done week one and you showed up. and you got past the little gremlins on your shoulder that were telling you you can't do it and telling you you're not equipped to do it and telling you you didn't have all the gear. You got past all of that, like I told you, right? And you just showed up and you just went for the right, which I'm seeing folks that are in there. Yes. And you did that. And so I'm really proud of you for week one. You're going to come back and you're going to rewatch this video. Week two is what do I say? And here's what I tell people. Don't try to be profound. Do not worry about saying something that is just going to be so deep that people are going to be like, â that was so deep. Your goal is to simply be repetitive with purpose. What I mean by that is this is where you're going to begin to clarify your core message. You're gonna begin to clarify your core message through practice. Now, if you're already an established entrepreneur, service provider, coach, consultant, something, you probably have worked with clients or you're in the process of building your clientele, right? And you're trying to decide, okay, well, how does that translate into actual content that I'm gonna put into a video situation, right? So I'm gonna give you something I call the 3C Livestream Compass, okay? So let me get this popped up over here for you. I have a mind map that will pop up really fast and I'm going to teach this. This is a super simple lesson. Three C's is what I want you to focus on to get started. You can go deeper later. Yesterday I met with our Stream Boss Academy members and we did a full 90 minute blowout training where we talked about content pillars and all kinds of other things, right? We're not doing all that tonight. But what I am going to do I'm going to show you this 3C Livestream Compass. So this is your compass to get you started. The second week, what I want you to do, and you need to be taking notes. I didn't remind people to do that. So take notes. Or if you're using Notebook LM, this is going to be a great Notebook LM Chrome extension with YouTube. You can click on the button and it will carry over the transcript from this video so you can use it to study, okay, as a learning guide. What you're gonna do is you're gonna clarify your core message accordingly. Number one, you're gonna clarify a pain point that your audience is struggling with. So what is one thing that the people who you wanna talk to, and mind you, we've had other episodes where we've talked about brand and I've talked about our four M's. I'm not gonna go deep on that tonight, but I am gonna say you wanna get clear on who you're speaking to. And so you know who you're speaking to. which eventually will come even if this is your first 30 days and if you're not clear on that, that's something you'll be working on, but you're gonna clarify a pain point that the people you wanna talk to are struggling with. The second C is you're going to connect by sharing a story or an example. The third thing is you're going to convert by offering a next step. It's not a sales pitch. It's just an invitation, a next step. Okay. Now, one of the things that I absolutely knew that people were struggling with right out of the gate when I first started doing live streams is I knew, and I still know this today, that one of the things people struggle with is confidence. because they feel like they have to come on camera with this automatic confidence. It's like you click a button and now today I'm confident and that's the only time I can go live. No, you're not going to go live with confidence. You're probably gonna go live scared. And that's okay. So this is me clarifying a pain point that some of you are struggling with right now. And the story that I'm going to tell you with Connect is that again, I'm a super introvert. When I say introvert, I'm like a cave dwelling introvert. So 2020, I was like, hey, this is cool. I'm good. Some of you were losing your minds and I was over here like, this is perfect. I don't have to see people. â But what I realized, and this is part of maturity, this is part of you becoming more mature as an entrepreneur and as a human being, you realize at some point that no person is an island. We do need other people. And what I found was that I was able to connect with people online through the stories I was telling and through the information that I was sharing because I'm a researcher and an analyst and a former investigator. And so I research information and I put it out there and I share, I take complex situations and I turn them into simplified, practical, easy points so that people can apply them to their life or their business. And so being able to do that, by using things like a mind map and screen sharing, right? And by using live stream video, using Ecamm Live, which is how I happen to be streaming right now. Using these different tools allowed me to really be able to get a point across. And then eventually I started being asked to speak on stages and I started being asked to be a part of book collabs and to be on podcasts and to do all these different things. I'm in the process now, finally, of starting to write my own book. So all of this has come from me stepping out of a comfort zone. doing on-camera video in my walk-in closet, doing it with horrible lighting, doing it when I wasn't really sure what to say or who I was talking to. And the more that I was able to do that, then I went to the convert phase and was able to ask people to take the next step. So I want you to think about how can I leverage that 3C livestream compass to share a point. You don't have to do all three. Let me pop it back up again. You do not have to do all three, but pick one of these and laser focus in on this. And that is what I want you to talk about in a field or an area of expertise that you love to talk about. It should not be something that you feel like you have to talk about it because somebody told you this was the hot trendy thing. And I will tell you right now that usually does not work. It's not effective. Why? Because when you come on camera and you start talking about things that you could care less about, it gets amplified. Who you are, what you love and what you don't love, all of who you're being gets amplified. by the video camera. So I want you to get clear on the fact that it should be something that you enjoy talking about. Because the more you enjoy it, the better it's going to connect with people. Now, that's your week two, okay? In week two, you've got one live stream under your belt, you've got live stream number two under your belt, maybe there's a few people trickling in here and there. Initially for me, I had people pop in and they pop out. Even now, as I'm doing this live stream right now, yeah, I mean, I've got this group of people who are watching, but some people have slid in and they've slid out. Some people will come back and they'll watch the replay. You start to get used to the fact that there's a flow, it's an ebb and a flow, and you shouldn't be too concerned about the fact that people drop in and out, because that just means people have things to do. It's a live stream. It's on your time. You set a time and said, hey, this is when I'm going to be live. Now, what does help people eventually, once you get to the point past these 30 days, is having a consistent schedule so that people know when to expect you to be online. But don't feel like you have to be stuck to a specific schedule in your first 30 days. I just want you to commit to doing at least one a week. I'm not even asking you to commit to a daily. Remember I said, I don't believe in that simply because I know realistically you're not going to keep doing that. At least I know I would not keep doing that because I got things to do. Like you have a life, right? So. daily live stream for most people is probably not realistic. It might be for some of you. But I want you to practice at least going live once a week. Just commit 20 to 30 minutes to the prep and the posting. Okay, now once you've survived the tech chaos and you kind of have an idea of something that you want to talk about, in fact, here's another, let me give you this bonus tip, because this is something else I shared with a new client recently. She was asking what to talk about. And so I asked her, you know, what got you into this particular area of thinking? Like, why do you love this particular field that you're in? What's so great about it? And when I tell you, asked her that question and it opened her up. Man, she went into this story and she was so passionate about it and she was like, just, I mean, the words were just flowing. And at the end I stopped her and I said, hey, that's your video right there. So if you know nothing else about what to talk about, start with that. There's a reason why if you're on Facebook or Meta, I don't know if you've gotten that pop-up. I know I sure have. I'm like, why do I keep getting this pop-up when I've done this like a thousand times? But the one pop-up that they constantly put up is it says to you in your notifications, you should create a reel that tells people who you are. This is true. You should create a reel. that tells people who you are and what you are all about and not a real, but a live stream. Do a live stream and talk about, is who I am. This is what makes me, this is what put me where I am. This is why I talk about what I talk about. This is why I love this topic. This is why I'm passionate about helping whoever you help. Those stories begin to build, again, it builds your confidence because you're talking about something that you're passionate about, but it also really connects with people because they start to know that you are a human being that cares about a topic that if they're sticking around is important and relevant to them too. Y'all get what I'm saying? I see my friend Sambaza podcast. I missed you at PodFest because I did not go this year, but I'm so glad, Steven, that you got a chance to go and be a part of PodFest. Let me go ahead and pop up some comments really quickly here before we go into our number three. OK. And we will do a recap cap as well. So let me do, let me do something really fast. I'm going to see if I am able to pop up my sub stack comments. I may be able to, but I'm not sure. Dr. Vibe show with all of those fire emojis. Yes, sir. Steven, let me pop it up and promote some Baza podcast in the house. Steven amazing guy. So much fun. So make sure you go follow some Baza podcast, please. Dr. Vibe Show said, many of us when we start live streaming, all we have is our story. Dude, that is so true. Hold on. me, I'm going to give you the confetti gold for tonight. Cause I believe that. Sometimes that's where you start because that's what you know. That's what's important to you. Benjamin, I'm so glad that you were able to be here and that I was able to share this with you. Okay. Let me try this. I'm going to... Attempt to do it. I'm gonna see if we can make it happen Valerie Harris is over on sub stack is wonderful to see you here Dr. Valerie Harris in the house Thank you. I also see my friend Jeremy vest and you know what? I don't know if this is showing up properly. I don't think that it is it's not showing up properly on â on Instagram. So I'll make sure it does next time. StreamYard has a really simple way and Ecamm Live has actually created a way for us to do dual, but I did not turn it on because I wasn't, I was not ready. I was not ready to do that today. Okay, let me see if I can showcase some of my folks who are over on Substack. So I'm using a tool and for some of you who were interested in doing this, I had created a video over on Substack that shows you how to do it, but it's a whole lot of work. It's extra effort. I'm going to be honest with you. And what you have to do is to use a tool called Social Stream Ninja. And so I'm popping that up to see if it's going to allow me to showcase your comments, but I probably didn't do it correctly because I know recently they had some, they had some updates that I did not download. So I'm going to say testing comments. Hey everyone. I'm just typing this into Substack real fast here. Okay. And it did not pop up. So we'll make sure we get that done for you next time. Here's why I think that's important, by the way, for those of you who are live streaming on places like Substack. Currently you're not able to showcase those comments and I feel like that's a super important and relevant part of the engagement process because it allows you to really be able to connect with people and they love to see their names. We all love to see that someone's acknowledging us on camera. And so I want to be able to do that for my Substack folks too. But I am acknowledging you. I'm going to do that verbally since we can't do it tonight. with your comments. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I see you folks over there on LinkedIn as well as on our YouTube. Okay, here we go. Let's talk about weeks three and weeks four. Now week three, this is where you're starting to make a shift because you're starting to figure out your voice. You, you now know that you can do this. Okay. Cause week one and week two, You did it. You did it. And so I want you to give yourself some high fives and there are going to be other people in your circle that love you and support you that are giving you some high fives too. They should. So now we're in week three and we're figuring out a couple of other things. So a couple of tips I'm going to give you here on week three. This is where you begin to make an authority shift. This is where you stop performing again. Because remember, you're still trying to get over yourself about the whole idea that things are not perfect, that you don't sound like you thought you would sound, you don't look like you wanted to look, all of those things. We're getting over that because we've done at least two, if not more. What I want to encourage you to do here is to begin to leverage the convert piece of what I talked about with three Cs for your Livestream Compass. what I want you to do and I'm gonna make it easy for you. I'm not saying go get your offer of $5,000 for a consulting service. No, I'm not saying you gotta put something like that out there. What I'm saying to you is I want you to come up with a singular call to action. One simple CTA. And here's how we're going to do this, okay? Now this is going to apply to you. Doesn't matter if you're an established entrepreneur or somebody who's brand spanking new. What I want you to do is to leverage a tool such as Linktree. There's a bunch of these different tools out here. I'm going to pull up what mine looks like because what ends up happening is you start wondering, what should I offer? I'm not really sure. Is Tanya saying I need to do a call to action, but what should I do? I'm going to give you a really simple and easy fix for this. This is practical advice. OK. And I'm going to pull mine up real quick so that you have it in just a second. And for those of you who are watching on Instagram, again, I apologize because I did not lay this out properly for you. Feel free to come and watch us on YouTube at Tanya Smith. Stream like a boss. But I'm going to pop up a page that hopefully you all can see. So this is, it's not, I don't use Linktree, but it's similar to Linktree, but you can literally and probably should use your own landing page, your own website, your own branding. If people type in streamlikeaboss.tv slash links. In fact, let me see, I should pop that up in here. Cause I didn't do that. Did I? â If you pop that into your phone or you pop it into anywhere and I'm gonna tell you why I want to explain this in just a second so that it makes sense to you because I want you to get why I'm making this a part of what you need to know. Okay, hold on. Let me move that out of the way trying to get this length thing. It's not let me do it. I don't know why. Let's try this will lock that. Ah, there we go. Okay, so I wanted to pull this out so that you can see this at your own leisure. Okay. This is one link. And the way that I leverage this one link is I put, and a lot of you know how to do this if you've been using a link tree, because maybe you don't have an established website or maybe yours is looking a little funky and it needs an update and you haven't put 2026 in the footer, reminder. Or maybe you're doing some improvements or you're changing your branding or whatever it might be, but you want to give people a way to connect with you after the video, after the live stream, right? And so oftentimes what I will do, whether it is my live stream or it's a podcast interview that I'm on, or it's a, I'm at a networking event, I will oftentimes give people this link, whether it's through a QR code on my phone or by simply just giving them this link, right? Because it allows them to connect however they prefer. Not everybody's on Facebook. Not everyone's on LinkedIn. Not everybody's on Substack, but wherever you choose to connect, you have the ability to be able to connect because you have this link. Another thing that I include on this page, my call to action generic call to action page that I'm inviting you to create for yourself is I have a video. One of my best and favorite videos that I love to share with people is about avoiding burnout, doing videos, right? So streamlining your content. So my video was on this page and then I have other helpful resources so that people know how to connect with me. I've got links to be able to book a coffee chat with me or to learn more about my business or to message me on Facebook. But I'm giving them common things that I think people, most people will take action on. Now, the other popular wisdom, let me say this and give you this disclaimer is Don't give people too many different directions because they will follow none of them. So I literally do not use this much these days unless I'm doing a show, guest interview, speaking on a stage, and I know that there is a variety of people that may want to connect in different ways. Okay? Because if you have an actual offer for a program, product, or service that is being launched right now, what you probably want to do is use that link. Honestly, from a getting started first 30 days perspective, I really think this is just simple enough. Now another thing you could simply do, especially if you're starting to build on YouTube, is to literally simply give people your YouTube link. But if you're worried because you only have like two videos on YouTube right now. then doing a Linktree style page would be potentially useful because it's giving them other ways to connect with you and book a call to talk with you more, right? Or to visit you and to see your programs on your website or whatever it is that they might want to do. They get to choose, I'm giving them a pathway and it's simple and it's one link and it's not like 500 links that they have to remember. Okay. And it's mobile accessible because a lot of people view video right now via mobile, which is why vertical does so well. Okay. So I hope that that was helpful in terms of week three, cause you're building foundation. And the ultimate goal really is this, even if you don't follow everything I just said, just don't complicate it. Give people one link, one direction, one instruction to follow. One place to start the relationship. That's what I want to challenge you to do. So if you heard what I'm saying and you're like, yes, I get it. I want you to type in a number one in the chat. Let me just, I want to do a check, check in with you and see if this is resonating and helpful. Okay. And yes, I want to pop up this comment from Roz because we were just talking about what to talk about, right? â And one of the things that she knows is on her heart is that she knows even though it's not something she wants to Necessarily focus on she doesn't want to focus on grief, but she knows that she's very passionate about Women who are suffering from grief because of loss So I get it I get it rise and you know what that can be super helpful because you're passionate about it and you're meant to connect with women in that particular area, your stories and what you share is going to be highly impactful to those who need to hear what you're sharing and what you're saying. Thank you for these number ones. Frugal family home in the house. Hello. Hi, beautiful. An absolute wonder. Yes. Dr. Stacey Moore. Thank you. Thank you. All right. So. It looks like people are hearing and viewing and seeing and it's making sense. Good. Okay. Messaging is better than multitasking. You do not have to be on every platform. So this is your week three and as you're thinking through it, you're like, well, I'm not really sure where I should be. Should I be on every platform? Do I need to be on Instagram and Substack and LinkedIn and Facebook and all the places? I'm going to say no. I'm going to challenge you to master your message on one, maybe two if you choose to do that, right? I'm gonna challenge you to master your message on one platform and get comfortable in your first 30 days on that platform first. Wherever you're hanging out and connecting, wherever you know your people, your audience, is there, you be there too. If it's a happy place for you. Now, I'm gonna say this. I know there are certain places. where my people probably are hanging out, but I don't want to be on those places. And so you get to make the decision as a grownup. You get to make an informed decision about where you want to hang out, but just consider choosing a place that intersects between the passion of what you enjoy and where they are. Maybe it's YouTube, maybe it's LinkedIn. It might be Facebook, Substack or wherever, but choose one. for those first 30 days. Also, I want to encourage you, which we can talk about next time, maybe in a future video, maybe not next time. But what we're gonna do is we're gonna talk about how you can leverage that video. So here's one thing that I want to make sure you do. In your first 30 days, I want you to get in the habit of doing this thing because this one thing is going to really save you something. It's gonna save your sanity later on. I want you to start thinking about how you save your content to your own property. I almost didn't say that, but something just nudged me to make sure I put this out there. So yeah, you did the live stream on YouTube. What if they decide they don't like what you're putting out there? And they shut your channel down. Facebook is already removing your live streams after 30 days. Substack you might put it on there, but maybe you lose it look within my first six weeks of being on substack. I lost everything and had to go back and Re-upload I lost all the numbers I had so many man. I can't tell y'all how I was so upset and I could not get anyone Nobody from support to respond to me I'm sitting there with my hair on fire like where Did all my videos go? Where did all my articles go? They disappeared. The one saving grace was that I, every time I go live, keep a local recording on my computer. And there are tools that will allow you to do that, which we can talk about in a later video if you all have questions on that. But if you're using something like StreamYard or Restream or Ecamm Live, they do give you the ability to be able to save local recordings at the same time as you're live streaming. So while we're streaming right now and it's going to these multiple places, if it fails, I ain't worried because I have a copy. I've got a backup, but they do take up a lot of space. So video takes a lot of space. And this is something you're just going to want to start thinking about is how am I going to store and organize this content so that I can find it when I need it? Okay. So that's something that you're be thinking about around week three and a half. Okay. All right. I want you to start shifting your mindset from what should I talk about to how can I coach someone today? Even if only one person showed up live, how can I share something that will be of value to that one person? That will be a solution that maybe they didn't even know they needed. or a solution they were looking for, which is even better. Week four. Are we ready for week four? Week four, we're there? Okay. I love this. Let me pop this comment up before we go into week four. Thank you. Michelle, you know I gotta pop this up here. Michelle O'Neill, stream boss. As always, you give me a tidbit that moves me forward or gives new insight. Thank you. And I thank you as well because you always take that tidbit. and you do something with it. And that's the important thing to me is I don't want to just be on here lecturing or talking to hear myself talk. I'm hopefully giving you something that you will stew on a little bit, process through and you will use. You will use this so that you can grow and you can continue to transform in ways that maybe you didn't even know you would be able to. I love that for you already. I know it's going to happen. It's happening right now. Okay, week four. This is when you start to feel a little bit more easy. I'm not going to say it's super easy. I'm not going to say you're like, Hey, I'm now confident. took a confidence bill weeks one through three and I'm there. I'm not saying that, but I am going to say you've gotten over a hump because you've made it to week four. So Now is your time to begin to have a little bit more flow. You're to work on flow. Flow is your metric, not followers. Okay, we're not thinking about, my God, I only have five followers. We're not thinking about that. We're just thinking about getting into a flow, into a routine. We're starting to figure out because we went live weeks one through three, we're figuring out now, you know what? Because this is what happened for me, I'll tell y'all. First, I was coming in out of breath from work, running up the stairs, trying to get into that walk-in closet to do those videos. And I get onto the camera and I'd be like, okay, all right, everybody, hey. I'd be out of breath. And I really wasn't feeling it. I didn't have the energy level, because I was trying to force it to be, to fit into the specific time. Cause somebody told me, Hey, it should be at this time. Cause that's when people are going to be on. Somebody told me that and I was trying to force it into this little square and I am not a square. I'm just not, I'm triangular sometimes. And sometimes I'm around. And so I wasn't fitting. It wasn't until I realized, wait a minute, what I need to do is experiment and test out different times and test out. different ways of being. Instead of me coming on stuffy and bringing my corporate voice and having a jacket, a suit jacket. and makeup on and all the things, I'm just going to come as I am and I'm going to come at a time where I feel comfortable. I've been able to wind down a little bit and I feel good about getting on camera. Because remember what I said, a lot of it is the mindset. It's the mental that tends to hold us back the most. It's us thinking we have to be perfect. We have to look perfect and everything has to be a certain way when it really doesn't. The biggest thing that you can nurture before you get on camera is your mind. And so what I started doing in my first 30 days, probably more like my first 60 to 90 days, to be honest, but now I get to share the shortcuts with you, is I started realizing I could do things like I could have my favorite Fruit Loops scented candle. And that sounds silly. Fruit Loops always reminded me of being at my grandma's house, eating cereal at her breakfast table. before I went to school. And so I found a candle that reminded me of something that was a good and positive memory. I have a picture of my grandma right here on my desk that I keep in front of me because I want to remind myself anytime I'm feeling a little down or I feel like I need to just have a little boost, I need to be encouraged, have a picture of her that sits right there in front of me. So when I'm doing this live stream, I can glance over and see her smiling face and know she's looking at me and saying, you're doing good, keep going. I knew that I could surround myself by making sure that I had things set up in a certain space, right? So that I didn't have to run in and turn on the camera. It was already ready to go. So there will be things that will help you to find your flow. And part of it is setting the environment in a way that is going to be productive, help you to be more productive and feel more productive and feel good about jumping on camera. Okay. So find the things, look, even some of the stuff that you all see in the scene right now, you can't see everything, but a few things that you see in the scene. So you see this Wonder Woman symbol and you see it back there and you see it over there. And I've got several dolls. even have the one and only, there's a black Wonder Woman. Let me find her. Hold on. Here she is. a Funko Pop, Black Wonder Woman doll. Things like that. Let me tell you why I started, I put those into my space. I put them in my space because as a young girl, I used to watch that show. Yes, I'm telling my age. As a young girl, I used to watch that show and I used to think, yeah, she's a woman. She's strong, she's powerful, and I thought all of these positive things, and if she can do those things, then I can too. And I started collecting little Wonder Woman items and trinkets and things like that. And so when I started to build out my studio, I wanted to surround myself with totems of empowerment. So the candle, the pictures of my grandmother, the reminders and mementos of who I am and how powerful I know I can be. All of that served to boost the energy level and to give me the confidence and enhance my ability to be able to come on and do what needed to be done to keep showing up. That may look a lot different for you. I don't know what that looks like for you. But I'm going to challenge you somewhere between week three and four, maybe it's 4.5, to start making a list of those things that make you feel empowered, that make you feel confident, that remind you of who you truly are. You are a powerful being. Please don't let anybody take that away from you. I had people on my live stream last week, some of you were on. We weren't doing a formal one, I just did kind of a pop-up. And I had a couple people from YouTube that were popping into the chat and they were saying some just really crazy raggedy things, like just off the wall. And what was funny about this, Because I'm in the zone when I'm on live streams, I can share this with you now, but initially I was thrown off. So early on, years ago when I first started, I would have been thrown off. But I'm at the point now where I know what I'm meant to do. I know my purpose. I know who is meant to be in my space. And so they were doing things to try to rattle me, to get me off of my game. And I simply acknowledged a couple of them and said, you won't rattle me. Like, this is not for you. I know who's here for me and I'm here for them, but this is not your place. So they moved on because I did not feed the trolls. So one of the things you have to realize is when you start to really find your peace into know who you are and to be confident in that and empowered in your space to be in your seat, like to own it. When you figure that out, it was a beautiful thing. And the best way that I figured this out, y'all, it wasn't from any other thing than live streaming. I believe truly because I kept doing this. I kept showing up in this seat most weeks. I believe that that was a strong contributor to helping me to feel more empowered and to do what I know I'm purpose to do. So I don't want you to give up. I never want you to give up. You're going to see people do some crazy things and we need to do another episode focused on that and how to handle that. Cause I've got some real practical tips to help you on handling that kind of drama. But what I loved is that after that show, I was talking with a client and she said, I watched how you handled that. And she said, I don't know if I would have been able to do it, but I love that you just kept your composure. You were really calm and you dealt with that like a boss. And I said, thus the name stream like a boss, right? We laughed a little bit about it, but you want to get into that place to where you feel so secure and who you are and what you're saying. and what you're capable of, then nothing's going to knock you off of that. Nothing's going to knock you off of that block. There are many other stories I can tell you, but I'm going to stop there and say that that is a part of what you're going to start to see around week four and beyond. When you get to week six and you get to week eight, you're really going to be feeling it. Like you're going to be like, okay, I am doing this thing. And when that happens, The minute you say that to yourself, I want you to send me a DM. Okay. I don't care where you are, wherever you're watching from right now, send me a DM. Cause I love getting those. I get them all the time where people are saying, Hey, it's because of you that I knew I could do this. And I finally started doing streams. I love those messages. So I want to hear from you. Okay. Let me pop up a few comments. have a couple more things to share with you. in week four and then we're going to do a quick recap. Yes, Castahead, Chris Stone, my buddy. This is my brother, my brother right here. Castahead, Chris Stone. Y'all need to come. First of all, you need to see his show, He and Jim Fuse on Dealcasters. And you also need to watch him on the Technologist Forum. Jillian Roberts. Hey girl. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Yes, Dr. Vibe Show. Have things around you when you live stream that keep you positive. Because there's always going to be negative energy in the world, y'all. We get to choose what we put around ourselves, how we surround ourselves with light and energy is so important. â my goodness. You did not miss it. Congratulations on the AI Summit. Thank you. I'm very honored to be â another, I'm speaking again with the AI Driven Business Summit. Super excited about being there. â Yes, Castahead, Chris Stone. Don't give the trolls the power, y'all. Again, we got some tips. You experience them also when you use StreamYard to broadcast vertical. Yes, that's typically, honestly, when I see them mostly is when I'm doing vertical because it is getting attention. And here's what I want you to know about that, Dr. Vibe Show. Don't worry about that. It's okay. It's okay that they're acting a fool, like my grandma would say. It's all right, because what that does is it just means it's getting you more engagement and it's driving more views, right? It's putting you in the feed because you're getting more attention and that's absolutely fine. So we won't dwell on those negative comments. simply, we may not even acknowledge them at all. Sometimes I choose not to. And every now and then I just tell them, hey, this isn't bothering. This isn't doing anything. It's not doing what you wanted it to do. And I keep it moving. And that takes all the air out of the room for them. Just know that. Okay. So let's take a look real quick here. I'm seeing some folks that are over on Substack. Eric Goodman, the unveiling Theology and Power joined. Roni, your midlife bestie joined too. It's good to see you all over there on Substack. Hello. I know I've got some folks that are on Instagram as well. It's a little bit more difficult for me to â see. I can see who's joined, but I haven't seen comments over there. just know that I am here with you and hopefully you can see a decent view. Because I didn't do my vertical layout tonight. Okay. When we talk about week four. Like I said, that's when the ease begins to take over. And so I've shared with you that this is when you also start to really get into focusing on flow. Flow is the metric, not the follower count, okay? You're learning your dashboard, you're learning your platform, whatever you're using. You may be in the process of choosing a platform, which I can help you with if you need that advice. You're no longer, you're not chasing comments. You're beginning to anchor. your message, you're beginning to figure out, okay, so when I do this, this works better for me. When I do that, I don't want to do that anymore. You're starting to level set how your setup looks, you're starting to level set what you say and how you say it, and you're coming up with a routine. Now, routines and systems, that's where I thrive. So I'm a big workflow type of gal. If you need help with that, That's what I do with my consulting and coaching, okay? So go to streamlikeaboss.tv and check out the programs that we have to offer. Now, I want to remind you of this one point. And this is the one point I share with that client I mentioned to you earlier who was starting to backtrack and say, â I think I'm just going to do produced. I'm just going to produce the video so I can go and I can edit it and I can make it perfect. Clients don't buy from perfect people. They buy from people who are clear and who they trust and they like. And they like you because you're real and you're human and you're you make mistakes just like them. But you've been through you probably a few steps ahead of them, if not further. Right. And you have solutions that can help them with a problem that they're challenged with right now. They don't care necessarily that your setup is golden. If you have simply a blank wall, that's good enough to get started. Heck, I didn't even have a blank wall. I had a really junky library slash study. I had a walk-in closet, like I told y'all. I moved all around the house trying to find spaces. I remember I used to have a space where people would be like in the comments, why do you have that piano back there? Do you play? Like they were asking me all these crazy questions that had nothing to do with what I was talking about. They had, there were distractions. Right? So I want you to get past worrying about all of that. The goal is for you to commit to creating a consistency habit. So let us go ahead and do a recap of the main solutions that I want you to remember. Okay. Here's some tips for you to get through your first 30 days. Week one, give yourself permission to show up messy. It's okay. Look, my hair didn't get done this week because ice. And I don't mean that ice. I mean, icy roads, snow, all of that, right? So it's super cold here in Texas. The roads were crappy. Couldn't get to the hairdresser. I wasn't gonna not do this live stream. A baseball cap. Find ways to get past those simple roadblocks that we're creating for ourselves and show up messy. It's okay. You don't have to know exactly what you're going to say. You don't need to write out a full script. In fact, I'd rather you not do that because if you read a script, it's going to look like you're reading a script and then that's inauthentic. So that's week one. Week two. Whatever message you started with, I want you to get a little bit more clarity around that message using those three Cs, right? And as you're creating your messaging, you're going to repeat, you're going to get in the habit of repeating the message because the more people start to hear that message, they rely on that message from you. Okay? Again, this is one of those areas where you might need a little help and it may take some time and it's okay. Week three. You're gonna simplify your CTA. So you're gonna figure out what's one link, not five. What's the one place I'm gonna send people to with this video? One place. And then week four, remember it's about ease over views. It's about flow over followers. We're creating a sense of ease. We're making it easy on ourselves and practically, you know, we're doing things that are simple and not making it complicated. Sometimes we make things way too hard. They don't have to be that hard. You're just doing it to yourself. If you ever find yourself like trudging through mud trying to do something, That means you need to step back and say to yourself, how can I make this easier? The answer will come to you.
